25/07/2025Sixty years after the play’s first staging at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, Aeschylus’ The Suppliants returned to the stage, produced by the Karolos Koun Art Theatre in collaboration with the Neos Kosmos Theatre, and directed by Marianna Calbari.
A poetic and deeply political play, centred on the modern concerns about the concept of asylum, the patriarchy, and the status of women—issues highly relevant to contemporary discourse—was presented as part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival 2024, featuring the CHÓRES female choral ensemble as part of the Chorus.

The Chorus also included students of the Greek Art Theatre Drama School and members of the Ki Omos Kineitai acrobat-dance group.
This production became a powerful convergence of ancient drama, contemporary vocal and physical expression, and female collectivity, elevating the voice as a medium of strength, memory, and resistance.
